Author’s Forward

What’s funny about sex? Nothing much while you’re experiencing it. However, seen from the outside by a non-participant, it can sometimes seem ridiculously hilarious. As I look back over my early years, when thoughts of sex nearly dominated my life, I find lots to laugh about, but even more to regret and sadden me. It was my curiosity over whether or not others could relate to the things I recalled that led me to write CUTE. That, and a myriad of odd incidents that often set the stage for learning experiences as I stumbled through adolescence like a hunting dog, sniffing and yearning for any chance to have sex.

I want to caution more sensitive readers that some of what you are about to read will be disturbing, since it deals with hard subjects like familial sexual abuse, homosexuality and pedophilia, all of which are described in fairly graphic detail. These graphic depictions, however, were necessary to set the stage for the curiosity, growth and maturing of the protagonist, as he questions his own motives and actions in an effort to come to terms with his sordid past.

Finally, as always, I feel the need to reiterate that this is a work of fiction and that none of the characters are real. It is informed, of course, by real experiences (some from my own life, others from stories told to me), however, if you recognize yourself or someone you know, it is only because certain experiences may be fairly common and you or your acquaintance may have experienced similar things.
